Mandatory reporting of product-related death, injury and illness was introduced in Australia by way of the Trade Practices Amendment (Australian Consumer Law) Act (No. 2) 2010, No. 103, 2010 on 01 January 2011.
Under the ACL Suppliers are obliged to report on consumer goods or product related services associated with the death or serious injury or illness of any person. Within 2 days of becoming so aware a written notice must be given to the Commonwealth Minister. Failure to report could result in a pecuniary fine.
