Colombia has drafted a resolution proposing to establish technical requirements relating to the location, design, operation, monitoring, closure and post-closure of hazardous waste landfills in order to ensure their overall safety.
By this proposal the Colombian Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development acting pursuant to Waste Management Decree No. 4741, 2005 and General Environmental Protection, Law 99/1993, purports to prevent and control environmental degradation. Draft applies to current and future hazardous waste landfills. Project consultation is currently ongoing and any comments may be forwarded to Diego Escobar Ocampo on diescobar@minambiente.gov.co until 31 May 2013.
