***Countering WEEE Illegal Trade (CWIT) Project Launches***

**Cork, Ireland –** Compliance & Risks, one of the world’s most trusted compliance services companies, today announced its involvement in the [Countering WEEE Illegal Trade (CWIT)](http://www.cwitproject.eu/) project with INTERPOL and other partners.  The illegal trade and disposal of electronic waste – known as e-waste or WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) – is increasingly becoming a threat to global environmental health and security.  The purpose of this project is to provide a set of recommendations to support the European Commission and law enforcement agencies in countering the illegal trade of e-Waste in and from Europe.

Funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme, the team involved include experts on e-waste analysis, criminal analysis, database management, regulatory compliance and security research. The consortium consists of INTERPOL, United Nations University, United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, WEEE Forum, Cross-border Research Association, Compliance & Risks, and Zanasi & Partners.
