They are proposing that formaldehyde emission standards for both domestic and imported wood products meet the levels set by Congress in 2010. The first proposal is concerned with limiting how much formaldehyde may be emitted from hardwood plywood, medium-density fiberboard, particleboard and finished goods, that are sold, supplied, offered for sale, manufactured, or imported in the US. The EPA also proposes the establishment of an accredited third-party certifier who would oversee the certification for manufacturers of composite wood products to ensure they meet the TSCA formaldehyde emission standards.
