The Green Guides outline general principles for all environmental marketing claims and provide guidance about how consumers are likely to interpret particular claims and how marketers can qualify them to avoid deceiving consumers. The Guides were last updated in 1998. The announcement will be followed by a phone-in media briefing at 12 PM (EST) with FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz, who will discuss the updated Guides and answer reporters’ questions. Additionally, FTC staff will answer questions on Twitter at 2 PM (EST). Follow @FTC and Tweet questions using #FTCgreen.
