According to the EPA, the Plan will result in: - 3,600 fewer premature deaths; - 90,000 fewer asthma attacks in children; - 1,700 fewer heart attacks; and - 300,000 less days off school and work. - More savings! A cleaner energy efficient environment means more public health savings (an estimated $45 billion every year) and reduced electricity bills (an estimated $85 a year by 2030). - Uniformity in individual state goals.  Whilst carbon pollution standards will be set for the whole country,  individual state goals will be customized. A model rule will be available for states to adopt as well as a federal plan in the event of a state's failure to submit an adequate plan. A two year extension period is available for states to submit their plans. At the same time, an incentive program will be introduced to encourage states to clean up their energy faster and get a head start in investing in renewable energy projects. - Job creation!  With the move towards cleaner more efficient forms of energy, more jobs will created in the renewable energy sector. - Good PR! As the world's second biggest carbon emitter (after China), this plan makes the US look good and may also encourage other countries to follow suit. In short, yesterday's announcement marks an important step, not only for the US but for the international community ahead of the world climate talks in Paris this December.
