On November the 30th Hungary published a Waste act which implements 3 EU Directives, Waste Directive, 2008/98/EC, Landfill Directive 1999/31/EC and Environmental Liability Directive 2004/35/EC.
The aim of the new law is to help to prevent the production of waste, and/or to promote the reuse of materials and products, furthermore, the highest possible ratio of waste recycling. In the interest of this, the Act sets recovery rates for certain waste streams, which Hungary will have to achieve within the prescribed time limit. The original bill was proposed in December of 2011.
The Act shall enter into force on the 1st of January 2013. Section 94 of the Act shall come into force on January 1 2014 and Section 95 shall come into force on January 1 2015.
