A draft law has been proposed to amend the Icelandic Waste Management Act. The bill is intended to implement European Directive 2008/98/EC on waste, in accordance with the European Economic Area Agreement. The bill, inter alia, contains new sections on producer responsibility for beverage packaging and proposes changes to existing provisions on producer responsibility for batteries and accumulators and electrical and electronic equipment. The proposed date of entry into force is the 1 July 2013.
