During a recent pilot supported by the Ministry of Energy and GEF/UNDP (Global Environmental Facility/ UN system development programme), WEEE collection boxes have been placed near electronics and cell phone stores in two cities and public information campaigns launched to raise awareness of the dangers of e-waste. The separate collection system will be rolled out across the country this year. Discussions have focused on the extended producer responsibility (EPR) model, since this was introduced via the "Concept for Transition to Green Economy" in 2013. That document provides that the government will introduce EPR to cover part of the costs of collection and disposal of packaging, e-waste, vehicles, batteries, furniture and other used goods.
