The rules would designate cadmium, mercury, and arsenic as priority chemicals, allowing the Department to require manufacturers or distributors of certain children’s products available for sale in the State of Maine to report the intentional use of these chemicals above de minimis levels. The children's products subject to reporting are: bedding, childcare articles, clothing, cosmetics, craft supplies, footwear, games, jewelry and embellishments, safety seat, occasion supplies, personal accessories, personal care products, school supplies, or toys which are intended for use by a child under the age of 12 years, that contain intentionally-added arsenic, mercury, or cadmium.
