Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has finalized its regulation to implement the Clean Energy and Climate Plan for 2020 related to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). The Air Pollution Control for Mobile Sources regulation was amended and combines the requirements of the Clean Energy and Climate Plan for 2020 relating to MassDOT, as well as greenhouse gas (GHG) planning requirements in MassDOT's GreenDOT policy directive.
Some of the regulatory requirements include:
- MassDOT to demonstrate its GHG reduction commitments and targets in the Clean Energy and Climate Plan 2020 are achieved;
- Metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) to evaluate and track GHG emissions and impacts of Regional Transportation Plans and Transportation Improvement Programs;
- MassDOT to evaluate and track the GHG emissions and impacts of State Transportation Improvement Programs (STIPs) and state-funded projects that are not included in STIPs.
