The proposed standard sets out to establish and define the characteristics of batteries, their electrochemical classification, the maximum permissible levels of heavy metals, as well as the labeling of batteries. The proposed standard is to be observed throughout the country by manufacturers, importers, distributors, traders and consumers of disposable primary and secondary batteries. It shall enter into force on the day following its publication in the official gazette, Diario Oficial de la Federación.
