On 15 January 2018, the WTO published a Notification containing a proposal to amend the Legal Inspection Requirements for Ventilators or Exhaust Hoods.

The aim of this proposal is to set "wind quantity" requirements for kitchen ventilators or exhaust hoods in order to reduce dangerous fume exposure to consumers caused by traditional cooking styles. In this regard it proposes to revise the inspection standards for ventilators by adding the requirements for wind quantity.

Although, labeling of the wind quantity is not a requirement, in cases where wind quantity is labeled on the product, packaging, stickers or the user manual, the test result shall not be lower than 95 percent of the labelled value.

The proposed date of entry into force is 1 January 2019. The WTO Notification deadline for comments on this draft is 29 January 2019.
