The Brazilian State of Sao Paulo has implemented a new framework for the operation of reverse logistics.

It requires manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers to organize reverse logistics or take-back systems of the products covered by this resolution that are sold in the state. These products due to their characteristics can require special systems for waste packaging, collection, treatment and disposal to mitigate harmful environmental and public health effects.

Covered products include oils, automotive and portable batteries, electrical and electronic products and their components, fluorescent lamps, mercury and sodium vapor lamps, scrap tyres, packaging for food, beverages and cosmetics.

It also states that the Sao Paulo State Environmental Agency will not renew or issue an operating license for companies that do not comply with this resolution.
