The United States (US) Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has proposed two new safety standards, one for bedside sleepers, and the other for hand-held infant carrierrs.
The Danny Keysar Child Product Safety Notification Act, Section 104(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), requires CPSC to promulgate consumer product safety standards for durable infant or toddler products. These standards must be "substantially the same as" applicable voluntary standards or more stringent than the voluntary standards, if the Commission concludes that more stringent requirements would further reduce the risk of injury associated with the product.
The proposed rule for bedside sleepers would incorporate the voluntary industry standard, ASTM F2906:2012, with modifications.
The proposed rule for hand-held infant carriers would incorporate the voluntary industry standard, ASTM F2050:2012, with modifications.
CPSC seeks comments from stakeholders on both proposed rules by 25 February 2013.
