The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has finalized changes to its Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA) rules, which require certain products to carry labels identifying the contents, source, quantity and other information to allow consumers compare products.
These amendments follow a public consultation carried out by the FTC in February. The changes include updating the place-of-business listing requirement to include online resources and incorporating a more comprehensive metric chart.
Certain product categories are exempt from the FPLA including items under the Food and Drug Administration’s jurisdiction and any commodity which must comply with labeling or packaging requirements covered by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, or specific provisions of the Virus-Serum-Toxin Act.
