Concerns are growing about PCBs as a contaminant in new products. The largest use of these man-made compounds is in electrical equipment, but there are also many other sources. PCBs are very persistent, as they last for decades in the environment and are a current priority for the Department of Ecology, who is also working to develop human health criteria for water quality standards. PCBs are a key chemical of concern in this process. The CAP will examine sources of PCBs in Washington and make recommendations to reduce exposures. The public comment period will remain open until 5 p.m., **October 6, 2014** and the Department of Ecology will also hold two public meetings: in Lacey on September 15, 2014, at ecology's headquarters, and in Spokane on September 24, 2014, at ecology's eastern regional office.
