Colombia Approves WEEE Decree

Colombia has approved a Decree aiming to to prevent and reduce the adverse consequences of the disposal of waste of electrical and electronic products (WEEE) on the environment. This Decree establishes a system for the management and take-back of WEEE. The main obligations on producers include:

Producers are obliged to promote the incorporation of waste materials into economic and production cycles in the country. The producer must ensure the implementation of collection points for WEEE free of charge as well as making available information on dangerous substances present in EEE. Information must be supplied to the consumer by the use of labels and packaging by requirements also to be established by the Ministry Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

Producers and retailers of EEE must register with  the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

The Decree will enter into force one year after its publication in the Official Gazette.
