Once complete, the evaluation will establish if the chemicals pose an unreasonable risk to both humans and the environment and, if so, the EPA must alleviate that risk within two years. The EPA is required to release a scoping document within six months for each of the ten chemicals, under the newly amended law, which includes the exposure, hazard, conditions of use and the susceptible or potentially exposed sub-population which the EPA aims to consider for evaluation. All additional chemicals will be selected for evaluation, with all remaining Work Plan chemicals to be reviewed for possible exposure and hazard. TSCA requires the EPA to carry out a constant flow of risk evaluations; they must have at least 20 chemical risk evaluations going on at a given time by 2019.
