<https://go.adherent.com/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/minion-972908_960_720-2.jpg>The EU Council had a meeting earlier this month and decided not to oppose the draft amendment of Directive 2009/48/EC. The outcome of this substantially strengthens the limit values for the amount of lead in toys.

New evidence has come to light which shows that the level of protection against lead exposure offered by the provisions, which was established in 2009, is no longer acceptable. This evidence prompted the EU Commission to draft an amendment to modify the lead limits, thus ensuring that these limits adhere to the latest available scientific data.

Approval of the Council indicates that this amendment will be adopted, that is, unless the EU Parliament objects to this new amendment.
