The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) issued comments on proposed changes to the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) care labeling and fur labeling regulations.
With regard to care labeling, the FTC has proposed a number of changes, including permitting the inclusion of "professional wetcleaning" on labels, allowing the use of both ASTM and ISO care symbols on products sold within the United States (US), clarifying what consists of a reasonable basis for care instructions, and modernizing the definition of drycleaning to include the use of additional solvents.
AAFA's comments emphasized the benefits AAFA members garner from the Care Labeling Rule, in general, along with the association's support for the FTC's proposed changes; however, AAFA asked the FTC to consider amending the proposed change involving care symbols so that the most current standards are allowed, rather than listing a specific standard.
With regard to fur labeling, AAFA supports all of the FTC's proposed changes to the to the Fur Products Labeling Act, as they lessen the burden for manufacturers, while still providing important information for consumers. AAFA's comments also encourage the FTC to continue to work with organizations in the states and internationally, to harmonize fur labeling requirements.
