The Algerian National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalisation of the Use of Energy (APRUE) recently announced that it will be launching a new national energy efficiency program in 2016.
The aim of the program is the gradual reduction of energy consumption and the provision of visibility to potential investors in the area of energy production.
In the field of lighting, the objective is to disseminate 10 million low consumption lamps per year. In addition, the program will prohibit the import of incandescent lamps from 2016, as well as providing for a total ban on the marketing of these type of lamps from 2020. It is also envisaged that mercury lamps will be banned from 2018.
The Program also includes objectives for the transport and building sectors.
