The Brazilian National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) has opened a public consultation on a proposed amendment to the procedures for the certification of toys.
To improve the traceability of conformity certificates issued for toys, INMETRO has proposed that testing laboratories film the testing of toys which will be required as part of the registration process for the certification of toys, in addition to the test reports.
The draft requires film footage to be unedited, uncut, capable of full screen viewing and retained on file for a minimum of five years. Throughout the testing procedure test samples must be clearly identifiable. This proposal aims to improve competition between conformity assessment bodies.
The deadline for comments on this proposal is November 3, 2015 and comments can be sent to: email: dipac.consultapublica@inmetro.gov.br.
The draft will enter into force upon the date of its official publication, and it is proposed the new certification process will come into effect six months later.
