The United States (US) House of Representatives has made the text of H.R. 2934 available.
The bill, titled "Decrease Unsafe Toxins Act," aims to ban flame retardant chemicals in children’s products, to reduce unnecessary health risks to children associated with exposure to chemicals that do not add a fire safety benefit.
The bill applies to "children's cushioned products," which are defined to mean a children's product containing resilient filling materials, such as bassinets, booster seats, car seats, changing pads, floor play mats, highchair pads, highchairs, infant bouncers, infant mattress pads, infant mattresses, infant seats, infant swings, infant walkers, nursing pads, play yards, playpen side pads, portable hook-on chairs, and strollers.
The bill would restrict flame retardant chemicals, defined to mean an organohalogen or organophosphorous compound.
If enacted, the Act would establish a 1,000 ppm limit for covered chemicals in covered children's products.
