The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), at the request of the European Commission, has reviewed the scientific evidence on the risks posed by articles containing the phthalates di-"isononyl" phthalate (DINP) and di-"isodecyl" phthalate (DIDP).
Based on an existing restriction, these phthalates cannot be used in toys and childcare articles which can be placed in the mouth by children.
Following a public consultation and an opinion by ECHA's Committee for Risk Assessment on the draft version of the review report, ECHA concludes that, if the existing restriction were lifted, a risk from the mouthing of toys and childcare articles with DINP and DIDP cannot be excluded. ECHA therefore concluded that there is no evidence that would justify a re-examination of the existing restriction.
No further risks were identified.
