In June 2013, Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources ("SEMARNAT") published in the Official Gazette of the Federation the National Climate Change Strategy, which constitutes the country’s main national policy instrument for its transition to a sustainable and low carbon dioxide ("CO2") emissions economy.
The strategy will have a significant impact on industry as it specifies goals to accelerate the transition to clean energy sources and improve energy intensity through efficient and responsible consumption schemes amongst many others. It will also lead to the introduction of monitoring and reporting obligations and economic incentives to implement sustainable production processes.
