The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published new proposals to identify an additional 4 chemicals as substances of very high concern (SVHCs). The public consultation will run until April 17, 2014 and interested parties are invited to post their comments on the ECHA website.
The proposals put forward by Sweden and Denmark concern the following substances:
- 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, dihexyl ester, branched and linear;
- Cadmium chloride;
- Sodium perborate; perboric acid, sodium salt; and
- Sodium peroxometaborate.
These substances have been proposed because of their potentially serious effects on human health. Three substances are classified as toxic for reproduction, while one is proposed to be identified as a substance of equivalent concern in accordance with Article 57(f) of the REACH Regulation because of its endocrine disrupting properties and potential for serious effects to the environment.
So far, 151 SVHCs have been included in the Candidate List. Inclusion on the list imposes new information requirements on suppliers of preparations and articles containing the substances.
