The project is related to enacting an Energy Efficiency Regulation for Electric Pumps. The aim of the regulation is the setting of minimum energy efficiency standards for electric pumps in order to achieve an energy savings of 20% when compared to current levels.
This regulation will include conformity assessment procedures, certificates of compliance, testing and labeling requirements and will be approved by the UAE Cabinet. It is expected that the regulation will enter into force in May 2018.
The technical regulation has yet to be published by ESMA however we are monitoring these developments closely.
The ESMA also announced that it intends to expand its current energy efficiency program by updating the energy efficiency requirements for televisions, rotary water pumps, washing machines and dryers.
