The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has just released the first National Adaption Programme (NAP), detailing future government actions and policies in relation to climate change, as well as highlighting the plans organizations are implementing to take advantage of changing conditions.
As part of NAP, Defra is pressing businesses, local government and communities to better prepare for climate change and extreme weather.
Only 40% of large businesses are putting plans in place to cope with the impacts of climate change, even though 64% of businesses in the UK have suffered supply chain disruption due to extreme weather and 70% of major businesses and their suppliers see significant risk from climate change.
Published in 2012, the Climate Change Risk Assessment, showed that unless action is taken to respond to climate change, the UK could incur significant costs and miss out on important business opportunities, both at home and abroad.
